False Lien Invalidated

Attorney Owen T. Weaver, working with co-counsel, obtained a judgment after trial invalidating a false lien filed against public property owned by the Town of Orange and the Orange Land Trust.

On February 21, 2024, a document was filed on the Orange Land Records that purported to encumber and/or lien 68 different properties, including lands owned by the Town of Orange and the Orange Land Trust and held for public trust. Attorney Weaver and co-counsel filed a petition pursuant to General Statutes Section 47-31a, which allows any person who had been identified in a document filed on the land records to petition to the court to invalidate the document if the document is patently false or filed for an improper purpose. After a one day trial, the court entered judgment against the filer and ordered the entire document be invalidated.
